Vanessa Luna has served as Counsel and Advisor to Litigation Manager, in the Litigation and Appeals Group, at the Department of Justice of Canada, where she has specialized in a broad range of legal and policy matters, involving the Crown, Administrative Law, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance and Old Age Security. In her role at the Department of Justice, she has also prepared opinions, analyzed complicated legal and policy issues, conducted legal risk assessments, and drafted practical and business minded contingency plans. She also served as Associate at the Coutu Champagne Avocats, where she worked in real estate and civil litigation.
Vanessa was a guest speaker on women empowerment at the International Women’s Empowerment and Leadership Conference and at the Women’s Festival Toronto Gala, both in 2016. She has volunteered for the Elizabeth Fry Society of Ottawa, assisting women who have been or may become criminalized, to reduce harm and oppression, and to contribute to a healthy community. Between 1996 and 2006, she was a Clinic Manager and Physician Assistant in various community health clinics.
Vanessa holds a Juris Doctor Degree and a License of Civil Law from the University of Ottawa. She speaks English, French and Spanish fluently.
