Esther Vicente is a Law Professor at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico Law School in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She has a Doctorate in Law from the University of London and a Masters in Law from The London School of Economics and Political Science. She received her initial law degree from the Universidad de Puerto Rico. She has over twenty years of experience as a legal academic.
The majority of her professional life she has worked on issues related to human rights, especially in themes related to gender-based violence and reproductive rights. She has published various works on the feminist perspective in legal theory, reproductive rights, violence against women and sexual harassment. She has participated in many forums and international congresses on topics related to women's human rights.
In 2017, Esther received the esteemed Nilita Vientós Gastón award from the Bar Association of Puerto Rico and the Association’s Commission for Women’s Affairs for her exceptional achievements in securing human rights for all, including the rights of women and girls.
Since 2003, Esther has been a member of the Board of IPPF/WHR and a member of the Governing Council of IPPF. She has been the President of the WHR Regional Council since 2008, and the President of the Board of Directors of Profamilias/Puerto Rico from 2002 to 2008.
