Darío Rosario Adames
Vice-President of the Region
Dario Rosario is a journalist, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Communications from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in 1985, and a specialization in radio journalism from the Center for International Journalism Studies for Latin America (CIESPAL) in Ecuador; he also pursued studies in sociology at his Alma Mater. He was a faculty member of the Latin American Social Sciences Institute (FLACSO) in the Dominican Republic, and a professor of social communications at the Jesuit Institute Pedro Francisco Bonó and the Dominican Universidad O&M. Dario has published four books, two of them on communication, Opening Paths for the Communication of the People in 1986, and The Speakers: a Feasible Means of Communication, in 1988. In 1993, he published Santo Domingo, a Crossroads of the Church (published by Verbo Divino, Spain), co-authored with Spanish journalist Saturnino Rodríguez, and Drugs and Politics in the Dominican Republic: The Kindgom of Vincho Castillo, published in 1998.
Dario has worked for the magazines “Rumbo” and “Gaceta Judicial”, and was an investigative journalist for the newspapers “El Siglo” and “Hoy”. Since 1997, he served as a commentator and interviewer for the news show Uno+Uno and the Sunday television magazine Jornada Extra. He has served as communications consultant for PAHO and UNESCO, as an editor of the Sunday edition of El Siglo, and Communications Director of Movimiento Cívico Participación Ciudadana. He also served as Profamilia’s Communications Director. He was unanimously awarded the “Rafael Herrera Award for Dominican Journalism Excellency” in 2002, by Universidad Católica Santo Domingo and Arturo Perellano Alfau Foundation. In March 2004, he founded the e-newspaper Clave Digital along with a group of independent journalists, and in 2006 he also led the foundation of the weekly newspaper CLAVE, and was its editor in chief since its creation until its closure in August 2010. He is currently director general of the digital newspaper Acento.com.do, which he founded in 2011.
Dario joined Profamilia as a volunteer in 2006, and was elected Vice-president of the Board in 2009. In 2010, he was elected President of Profamilia’s Board and since 2014, he serves as Treasurer. Dario serves as Vice-president of IPPF’s Western Hemisphere Region since 2011, and is a member of several of IPPF/WHR’s Board committees.
