Gender-based Violence in Latin America and the Caribbean
Gender-based violence remains an all too pervasive reality for women and girls in Latin America and the Caribbean, but underreporting and a lack of quality data makes it difficult to know the full scope of the problem. Collecting data on the issue not only bears witness to the human rights abuses that far too many women experience daily worldwide, but also helps to understand the prevalence, nature, and root causes of such abuses so that we may be more effective in stemming it through laws, policies, and prevention and response programs. This fact sheet provides an overview of the data available on gender-based violence in the region.
