Asociación Civil de Planificación Familiar (PLAFAM)
PLAFAM is recognized as a pioneer in advocacy and the delivery of sexual and reproductive health services in Venezuela. Its services include gynecological care, contraceptives, gender-based violence screening and referrals, and HIV and STI prevention, testing, and treatment. PLAFAM works to ensure its staff is sensitive to the needs of vulnerable populations, such as LGBT clients and youth.
PLAFAM’s youth volunteers facilitate community-based trainings on sexual and reproductive health issues. They conduct education and outreach at universities and provide referrals to PLAFAM’s youth centers. PLAFAM has its own weekly radio program with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and youth.
PLAFAM has been a regional leader in its efforts to address unsafe abortion. It is also at the forefront of the movement to gain legislative changes that defend the rights of women, the disabled, and people living with HIV.
