The International Planned Parenthood Federation/Western Hemisphere Region (IPPF/WHR) and the International Budget Partnership (IBP) implemented a pilot project to determine the extent to which governments publically report on the steps they have taken to fulfill international commitments to reducing maternal mortality. This research was carried out in Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, and Peru. It assessed the availability of information on public policies aimed at reducing maternal mortality and on the resources committed to implement these policies in each country. It found uneven standards across the region, revealing room for improvement while laying a solid foundation for future inquiry and advocacy.
