Comment on "The Senate discovers women" by Nicholas Kristof
I applaud your great reporting and the strong political commitment of Senator Barbara Boxer to advancing gender equality and women empowerment.
Access to good quality sexual and reproductive health care, including family planning, is one of the single most effective ways to improve individual and community health and wellbeing. In fact, it is critical to empowering women and improving women’s health. The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) task force on gender equity included SRH among the most urgent tasks in order to bring vital gains in the well-being to millions of people.
As the subcommittee develops its agenda, I urge them to address the need for greater investment in SRH and family planning as this plays an important role in reducing maternal deaths and poverty.
