“I’m the clinic’s technical nurse; I do the pre-appointment consultation with patients, taking their blood pressure, height, weight, etc. I go over a pre-appointment check-list to collect all of the information for the doctor. I talk with the patient about what will happen during their appointment, for example, if they come for an IUD I will talk with them about how the procedure is done… BEMFAM’s work is important in many ways.

Belinha, Brazil

"My name is Belinha. I am 31. I live in Lemon Torres with my mother and my two daughters (8 and 12). I am separated from my husband. I have lived here for twenty-three years. I used to work as a cleaning lady at the children’s hospital but I don’t work now.  When I have medical problems I go to a public health post in the neighborhood. I take my children to the public health clinic when they’re sick. I heard about the BEMFAM clinic from Humberto, our community leader. Six months ago I had my first appointment at BEMFAM.
