Vivienne, Client, PROFAMIL, Haiti

Vivienne, 28, rode a clattering city bus for three hours to get to PROFAMIL’s Port-au-Prince clinic for the first time last February. She had health problems, and a friend recommended the clinic. That marked the first time that Vivienne had ever seen a gynecologist.

Recently married, she has returned to the clinic for fertility consultation to begin her family. “If I didn’t go to PROFAMIL, then I would have had to go to the state hospital, where care is very bad and very expensive,” Vivienne said, “Women need healthcare, safety and sanitary living conditions. Many of us don’t have clean water at our homes and our living conditions are very, very poor.”
